The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue located in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was a key figure in the Indian independence movement and the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India. The statue was constructed as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, often referred to as the “Iron Man of India” for his role in unifying the country after independence. Construction began in 2013, and it was inaugurated on October 31, 2018, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Patel’s 143rd birth anniversary. It stands at a height of 182 meters (597 feet), making it the tallest statue in the world at the time of its completion. It is situated on a river island facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River. The statue was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar and is made of bronze. It depicts Sardar Patel in traditional Indian attire, holding a staff in his left hand and wearing a dhoti and shawl. The statue is surrounded by a memorial garden and overlooks the Narmada River. The site offers a range of tourist facilities, including a museum and exhibition halls that showcase the life and achievements of Sardar Patel, as well as the history of the Indian independence movement. Visitors can also enjoy boat rides on the Narmada River and explore the surrounding gardens and recreational areas. Situated on a river island facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, the Statue of Unity enjoys a picturesque location surrounded by natural beauty.
